Immortality – everyone is looking for it in today’s society. Truthfully, we are all seeking the “fountain of youth” out there. The media is always advertising a younger and slimmer you, one with pluckier lips, silicone and saline implants, cosmetic lifts with cosmetic enhancements and plastic surgery, and face lifts that are so tight that they could break a smile. Yet, I come away thinking, is all this really important in the end. Are we trying to look young or we trying to be young again?
I look at my elderly parents. In their mid- to upper-80’s now, they are still active as a 40-year old. Their bodies have declined over the years with health issues, decreased energy and stamina. However, they have the mentality to get out and live life. My mother always voiced that she needed to stay active as nobody else would do the work otherwise. My father is still insisted to get out and cut the lawns as a younger man. Neither one of my parents let physical limitations stop them.
What we seek is to be good to our bodies and to be healthy. Immortality is no secret formula. It isn’t a magical pill or an ingredient. It is the way we lead our lives. If we lead a healthier lifestyle with plenty of exercise and nutrition, we increase the likelihood that we live longer. There is no brain scientist invention. It is simple facts. Good sleeping habits, rest in moderation and healthy foods balance out. It is what our bodies require.
The most successful ingredient to living longer is being good to your ‘self.’ Being happy, doing things that make you happy and enjoying life. Acquire hobbies that you enjoy. Something new that requires a new learning experience is the best advice given by the experts. Believe me, I am no expert in immortality. It has taken me a period of years all my life to learn new things, new adventures and new challenges.
Things that have helped me are to put trust in God in Jesus Christ. Restore happiness in your life. Let go of painful things in your life and more importantly, your past. Forgive yourself of wrong doings and others that wronged you. Make today and everyday a new day in God’s glory. Tell yourself “I am restoring health, happiness and youth” to my life each day. I think that would work better and much less expensive than a face lift!

Carolina, yes, why did it take me so long to learn this? I spent thousands on liposuction and cosmetic enhancements over 15 years ago. Truth is, I noticed the difference but nobody else did. lol Anne 🙂

Great post, and I agree with you.. It’s exhausting to see how everywhere you see is talks about slimmer you, younger you; when we should be concerned with how fit should be you!

Thank you. Over 15 years ago, I spent thousands to liposuction my abs for a firmer and leaner “Me.” I went into debt, not including having to consolidate my credit cards, only to find that eventually, the fat comes back. It doesn’t look very pretty either. The best suggestion is to eat leaner and healthier. Lots of exercise and diet is the best substance. Thank you for your comment. 🙂

I truly believe that! I was watching a healing service tonight on television. I believe that the Lord shines through the person, a reflection of one’s soul.

The Cycle of Creation has existed since beginning of this time…and we are but part of it. No running away from it…just accept, we live, we die…and in between we can spread much joy and love and make a little difference around us. Through eyes of awareness we come to know that this material world is but maya…illusory, and nothing material, even cosmetic surgery will satisfy! Once we accept this, we begin to live a natural existence…not battle against the world. Just go with the flow and before you can love others you must first know your -Self…and that is not your little self…but the Self that holds the Essence of Creation… Jeshua / Jesus showed us how to live. Life is to be enjoyed! Thank you Anne…that opened up my brain cells first thing in the morning! Keep well and happy and again many Congratulations on all your many amazing achievements…!!

Could not agree more! There’s a person I am working with who kicked the idea around of getting a $5000 surgery that would be more restrictive than just eating and $100 worthof supplements a month. Think of what could be accomplished in 50 months of exercise and healthy living.
I was dumbfounded to say the least.

It is even worse than that becuase if the person does not stick to the diet it could cause a rupture and kill them.

Such good advice, but so many people find it so hard to follow.

I agree. So many people seem to be restrained through whatever reason (religion, lifestyle, society rules, etc). It took me years to actually just enjoy life and be happy. It brought peace of mind that I sought all my life. Thanks for your response. Anne 🙂

I reckon your parents have the correct formula. My wife and I do as much outside as we possibly can. We eat what pleases us, drink what pleases us, rarely look in the mirror as we have scant regard for what other people think when they see us. However, we are proud of our appearance, refuse to be sloppy dressers and the best part of getting older is that we can laugh when others think that they shouldn’t.
A positive outlook, keeping going despite the occasional, ‘I can’t do it, the odds are stacked against me’ thoughts and we just get on with it.
That’s our mantra and so far it’s worked a treat, keeps us happy, contented and a pain in the A… for lots of others our age who won’t even try.

Thanks for replying. I agree it a “You Can, You Will” attitude that really matters anymore. Sounds like you and your wife are doing what you want enjoying life and that is what it should be. I take my hats off to you two. Age is just a number anyway. 🙂

You are absolutely correct about numbers.I look at numbers as if were a statistician. By doing it that way I can get any outcome or result that I like.

I needed to read this post today…it’s my 50th birthday in 4 hours! I’m starting to look old and there’s not much I can do to stop it! I’ve decided to “laugh” about it instead and spread the love and laughs. Another great post by you. Thanks again.

Thank you. Very sweet comment. I reached 50 several years ago so I’m with you. Age is just a number though. I wanted cosmetic surgery but with autoimmune, it’s not an option for me personally. I will have to grow old gracefully. Just another obstacle in my journey but I think it’s best to accept that aging is part of the normal process of life. Happy Birthday! Hope many nice surprises on your special day! 🙂

In our ‘Ulysses Club’, a motor cycle club for the over 40’s who can join as ‘junior’ members you become a genuine member when you reach 50 years of age. Our motto,” Grow old Disgracefully”. I’m only 75 and I’m having a bit of trouble with the disgracefully bit but there is nothing wrong with trying.

I admit I would have cosmetic surgery if I could. I am not eligible because of autoimmune disease. People tell me I’m beautiful as I am but I know they are just being kind.

Don’t kid yourself Ms.A, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Why else would you tell me I look younger than I really am, you smooth talker.
By the way, I’m glad that cosmetic surrey is off your agenda. All of like you just the way you are.

Worry not. Although my wife is a ‘Trained Killer’ ,and I kid you not, she too enjoys your writings and admires your forthrightness. It amuses her that you think our communications are a problem. In her view, when I’m busy at the keyboard, I’m not in her way. So rest easy, a female Aussie Ninja is not en route to the USof A.
